2023-2024 Hopkinton High School Program of Studies

February 8, 2023

Greetings,

We are pleased to announce that the 2023-2024 Program of Studies is ready to be published and shared with our students and families. The program of studies has been redesigned, and we encourage everyone to review it. We will also host our annual Program of Studies night on Thursday, February 23rd, at 6:00 pm in the high school auditorium. This event is mainly for our current 8th-grade students and their families, but all are welcome to attend. Please watch for another posting about the POS night.

Here are some of the highlights we would like to share with you.

Course Levels: On page 7, you will find a list of the three designations for course levels.

Specified Credits: On page 9, you will find a list of our specified credits and a description for each.

Pathways to Graduation: On pages 10 - 11, you will find information about our 20-credit and 24-credit pathways to graduation. We also list suggested pathways for students planning for post-secondary education.

Diploma Planning Worksheets: On pages 12 - 13, we include planning worksheets families can use to plan what their child will take for classes.  These worksheets also clearly identify the number of credits needed for each content area.

Course Selection Process: On page 14, we outline an eight-step process during the course selection process. Students and families should review this to understand the process.

Course Description Key: On page 23, we included a key explaining how to read the course descriptions. Students and families should review this to understand how to read course descriptions because we have changed the formatting from the previously published program of studies.

Courses running in alternate years: We have electives that do not run every year; therefore, we created a chart that will outline what courses will run in “Odd” or “Even” years. The chart will assist students and families in planning appropriately for their child's high school experience.

Flow Charts: We developed flow charts for each department that outlines what course a student should take by grade level. We have also identified what courses are required to assist students and families in scheduling.

AP Exam Registration

AP teachers should have sent parents/guardians via Aspen the registration information for AP exams. Students who are not in an AP class are also allowed to register to take a particular test. If this is the case, parents and students are encouraged to contact our AP Coordinator, Ms. Stern, via email at bstern@sau66.org.

You will find the exam fees on the registration form, including the late fees and cancellation fees. If a family qualifies for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, they pay the reduced fee. Click here to access the registration form: AP Exam Registration Form

October 4th is the due date for the registration forms. Students or parents can return the completed form and payment to Mrs. Doval in the main office.

A reminder that the school cannot order an exam if the student does not join the AP classroom.
