School Safety and Security
Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
School safety and security continues to be on the minds of parents, students, teachers and school administrators across the country. If you do the research, you will find that there have been 18 gun related school (including higher education campuses) incidents in 2018 alone. That's an unbelievable statistic, but it's true.
After much thought and consideration, I feel it's necessary to make some changes to help make our building more secure while our students are attending classes.
Starting on Monday, March 5th the school custodian will be locking all doors, this includes the front door, at approximately 8:05 AM. After 8:05 AM, all students, parents and visitors will need to enter the building through the double door at the front of the building. Students will not be allowed to enter through the back door of the gym after 8:05 AM. Students and staff are not allowed to open doors for anyone during school hours. We ask that all staff and students direct everyone to the main entrance. There will be signage on the doors explaining the expectations.
We will be requiring that all students, parents and visitors to call the main office at 746-4167 to gain entry to the school after 8:05 AM. When a student, parent or visitor contacts the main office, we will send a staff member to the front entrance to greet and let that person into the building. We are also in the process of setting up an electronic monitor in the main office with a live feed to the exterior camera by the main entrance over the double doors so we can see who is at the entrance.
This will be a temporary procedure before the District permanently installs a more secure means to enter the middle high school during school hours.I know that this will be seen as an inconvenience to some, however I need to be thinking of our students and staff safety and feelings first. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
